A new luxury development is underway on the Costa del Sol of southern Spain that embodies the style and substance of the late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld.

The five exclusive villas are being designed in collaboration with the Karl Lagerfeld brand and will feature numerous sustainability measures.

“We’re thrilled to see Karl’s vision of effortless luxury and passion for architecture come into fruition with this unprecedented residential project,” said Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL Lagerfeld, in a press release.

“These villas, not only mark the exciting expansion into the world of residential projects of Karl Lagerfeld, but also embody the high standard of sustainability our brand is aiming to,” he said.

Branded residences – custom developments decked out by a specific brand, be it high-end hotelier or classic automaker, have been getting an event bigger style boost recently by partnering with fashion houses.

For the Karl Lagerfeld Villas Marbella, the brand is working with Sierra Blanca Estates, a Spanish luxury developer, and The One Atelier, a branded residences specialist based in Italy – two firms that have worked together before, most recently on another development in Marbella, the Epic Marbella furnished by Fendi Casa.

The first venture into real estate for the fashion brand is being built on 9,670 square meters of land off of the Mediterranean coast, with bicycle baths leading straight to the sea.

The villas will all be slightly different, but all feature a reflective surface made from wood coated with a synthetic ceramic material and white gold dust that has been polished to a gleam.

Interiors will be fitted with custom furniture and other décor by Karl Lagerfeld and black-and-white terrazzo flooring sure to be Karl-approved.

The lower level of each villa will be transparent, allowing for uninterrupted views of the tranquil landscaped gardens, a favorite of Mr. Lagerfeld, that weave throughout the property.

Eco elements

The villas will not just be surrounded by greenery but will incorporate green features as well.

Sustainability is a key component of the development, from the low-carbon emission construction process to an eco-friendly architectural design.

Natural temperature regulation will help to conserve energy – insulating materials will be used and each villa will be oriented to make good use of the sun and weather. Slight depressions in the ground will help to protect the lower level, and a window modulation system will filter light.

Technology plays an important role too, with smart automation controlling energy use and the villas’ mechanical systems running on geothermal power. Solar panels on the roof will add to the energy supply.

Rainwater collection systems will be used to water the villas’ green roofs, fill swimming pools and irrigate the gardens.

The development will also be planting 300-350 trees as part of the project.

“We have been thrilled of this collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld and we look forward to seeing this exclusive project come to life,” said Michele Galli, CEO of The One Atelier, in a press release.

“The villas will establish a new approach to upscale living that focuses on circularity and nature, while maintaining the pillars of a premium lifestyle,” she said.
